My grandfather was the Sherwood Foresters’ Regimental Quartermaster Sergeant. He remained the RQMS until 1936 when it was decided the the post was no longer needed. He’d officially retired from military service a few years after the war ended, but remained in the post and was active with the regiment until 1936.

I’m not sure exactly what he did, but I have a letter from the CO confirming the end of the association.

It’s highly likely that our grandfathers knew and fought alongside each other.

That's fascinating! I actually know nothing about mine; I'm buying my father access to one of those genealogy research platforms so he can do the research for Christmas this year.
