I agree with you that Wetherspoons deserves credit for keeping a certain kind of pub alive and affordable.
But I take exception at the craft beer jibes. Craft beer is better than the mainstream lagers served in most city pubs, in taste, inventiveness, logo design and even name. Some of the taprooms can be a little cold, but they are no worse than the tacky gastro layouts in many conventional pubs. There are also good taprooms for those who care to look
And one final point: many craft taprooms serve cheaper pints than the pubs nearby.
No, I jest but you have a point. Some craft is fine (a few mates run a craft brewery) but Big Craft is very cringe-coded. Not sure I agree with the taprooms, but of course survivorship bias - I don’t like most of the ones I’ve been in so don’t go in many anymore.
