Leaving aside JRM’s failures, although a week may be a long time in politics, 8 months trying to move an immovable object isn’t.

The essence of the problem, as I see it, is that giving independence, even a notional one, is destined to bite the hand that set it free.

Teaching children to be independent free thinkers and then complaining when they no longer see the world the way you do is a problem only for the parent.

Multiple quangos… think of the colonies of North America … rather like the idea of doing as they please and tend to take on a life of their own.

The cat is out of the bag, the genie out of the bottle and that’s confirmed when the quango finds that using two fingers is met with nothing except exasperation!
