I don't mind new departures, but you'd need to go a long way to persuade me that this is currently the right one. With an old fashioned tax and spend Labour government, I'm not convinced the old fashioned responses aren't still relevant.
Thank you! I think we have a lot of new problems - particularly around immigration - that require new thinking. On the taxing and spending I think you're right - although there are questions about the Schmittian nature of Labour's taxing & spending, and questions about state capacity. I think most people would be fine with tax and spend IF we had a country that functions well.
