Worth noting that the BMA do not cap Dr training numbers, the government do (the BMA support the cap). This is because a) the costs of training are subsidised heavily by government and b) medical school training is the point of access, but to train a Dr takes several further years of regulated training requiring organisational support, and the resources to increase this would need to be drawn from an already overstretched NHS.

Great work. Just some comments: you haven’t mentioned that visas should not be issued if a UK worker can do that job. It’s easier said than done, though, due to the slippery globalist world.

This is very relevant in the IT world, which I worked in for many years. The problem is – who will judge who is the best – in reality you are unlikely to even be considered.

You need to mention that we shouldn’t tolerate artificially lowering wages on job adverts to deter British resident applicants. This trick is often used. Then the company will say – ah well, no-one applied so we need to bring someone in, can we have a visa please? Another trick is to ask for skills that aren’t actually required for the role to ensure no one applies.

Also – don’t forget the intra-company transfers scam. This means (if you have a base in the UK) you can just transfer in (with out any need for a visa) any employee from anywhere in the world. Plus – this may be a precursor to just offshoring the role completely. I’ve often seen it happen.

Sadly you will be up against major world corporations and frankly will struggle to achieve some of your recommendations. NB most recruitment is also now controlled by powerful and influential recruitment agencies and not by the end client company.

All credit to Kemi Badenock, though, at least trying to do something on this. Here is a link describing how she refused to sign a deal with India due to visa demands.
